Ingredients
- 2 lbs fresh strawberries, hulled and sliced
- 1 pint fresh blueberries, rinsed and dried
- 4-5 ripe bananas, peeled and sliced
- 1 large rectangular platter or cutting board (approx. 12×18 inches or larger)
Instructions
- Thoroughly wash all strawberries and blueberries. Hull the strawberries and slice them into 1/4-inch thick pieces. Rinse the blueberries and pat them completely dry.
- Peel the bananas and slice them into 1/4-inch thick rounds. (Optional: To prevent browning, you can lightly toss the banana slices with a tablespoon of lemon juice.)
- Choose a large rectangular platter or cutting board that will serve as your canvas for the flag design.
- In the top-left corner of your platter, create a square or rectangular “union” using the fresh blueberries. This section will represent the blue field with stars.
- Below and to the right of the blueberry union, begin arranging your red stripes. Place a horizontal row of sliced strawberries across the platter, extending from the edge of the blueberries to the opposite side of the platter.
- Next, create a white stripe directly below the red strawberry stripe using the sliced bananas. Arrange them neatly in a horizontal row.
- Continue alternating red strawberry stripes and white banana stripes until you’ve filled the rest of the platter. Aim for 7 red stripes and 6 white stripes if your platter size allows, adjusting as needed to fit your space.
- Arrange the fruit neatly, ensuring the stripes are relatively straight and evenly spaced for the best visual effect. Serve immediately for optimal freshness and enjoyment of your edible American flag!
