Ever wanted to bake a beautiful pie without turning on the oven? Our Easy Clay Pie recipe lets you craft a delightful pretend dessert with simple steps and a touch of creativity. Perfect for imaginative play, party decorations, or just a fun craft activity for all ages!
Ingredients
- 1 cup air-dry clay (beige or light brown for crust)
- 1/2 cup air-dry clay (red, yellow, or purple for filling)
- Small amounts of various colored clays for decoration (e.g., green for leaves, white for whipped cream)
- Toy or real pie plate/tart pan (for shaping)
- Rolling pin (toy or real)
- Plastic knife or clay tools
- Optional: Craft sprinkles, glitter, or small beads for topping
- Optional: Clear craft sealant or Mod Podge (for gloss and protection)
Instructions
- Prepare your workspace by covering it with parchment paper or a craft mat.
- Take the beige/light brown clay for the crust. Knead it until soft and pliable.
- Roll out the crust clay to about 1/4 inch thickness, making it wide enough to line your pie plate.
- Carefully press the rolled clay into the pie plate, forming the base and sides. Trim any excess clay from the edges.
- Use your fingers or a plastic knife to crimp the edges of the crust for a realistic look.
- Next, take your chosen filling-colored clay. Knead it and then form it into a ball or disc to fit snugly inside your pie crust.
- Place the ‘filling’ clay into the pie crust.
- If desired, roll out a small piece of crust clay, cut into thin strips, and create a lattice top over your filling.
- Use small pieces of colored clay to create decorative elements like berries, leaves, or a dollop of ‘whipped cream’ for the top of your pie.
- Optional: Sprinkle craft sprinkles, glitter, or small beads onto the pie for extra embellishment.
- Allow your clay pie to dry completely according to the air-dry clay’s package instructions, usually 24-72 hours. Do not attempt to bake it in an oven!
- Once fully dry, you may apply a coat of clear craft sealant or Mod Podge for a glossy finish and added durability. Let it dry completely.
- Your easy clay pie is now ready for display or imaginative play!
