Ingredients

  • 1 cup air-dry clay (beige or light brown for crust)
  • 1/2 cup air-dry clay (red, yellow, or purple for filling)
  • Small amounts of various colored clays for decoration (e.g., green for leaves, white for whipped cream)
  • Toy or real pie plate/tart pan (for shaping)
  • Rolling pin (toy or real)
  • Plastic knife or clay tools
  • Optional: Craft sprinkles, glitter, or small beads for topping
  • Optional: Clear craft sealant or Mod Podge (for gloss and protection)

Instructions

  1. Prepare your workspace by covering it with parchment paper or a craft mat.
  2. Take the beige/light brown clay for the crust. Knead it until soft and pliable.
  3. Roll out the crust clay to about 1/4 inch thickness, making it wide enough to line your pie plate.
  4. Carefully press the rolled clay into the pie plate, forming the base and sides. Trim any excess clay from the edges.
  5. Use your fingers or a plastic knife to crimp the edges of the crust for a realistic look.
  6. Next, take your chosen filling-colored clay. Knead it and then form it into a ball or disc to fit snugly inside your pie crust.
  7. Place the ‘filling’ clay into the pie crust.
  8. If desired, roll out a small piece of crust clay, cut into thin strips, and create a lattice top over your filling.
  9. Use small pieces of colored clay to create decorative elements like berries, leaves, or a dollop of ‘whipped cream’ for the top of your pie.
  10. Optional: Sprinkle craft sprinkles, glitter, or small beads onto the pie for extra embellishment.
  11. Allow your clay pie to dry completely according to the air-dry clay’s package instructions, usually 24-72 hours. Do not attempt to bake it in an oven!
  12. Once fully dry, you may apply a coat of clear craft sealant or Mod Podge for a glossy finish and added durability. Let it dry completely.
  13. Your easy clay pie is now ready for display or imaginative play!
