Ingredients

  • 1 lb (450g) lean ground beef
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 packet (1 oz / 28g) taco seasoning mix
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 12 hard taco shells
  • 1 cup shredded lettuce
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 cup diced tomatoes
  • 1/4 cup chopped fresh cilantro (optional)
  • Sour cream, salsa, or hot sauce for serving (optional)

Instructions

  1. Heat a large skillet or non-stick pan over medium-high heat. Add ground beef and cook, breaking it apart with a spoon, until browned and no longer pink. Drain any excess fat.
  2. Add the chopped onion to the skillet with the beef and cook for 3-5 minutes, until softened. Add minced garlic and cook for another minute until fragrant.
  3. Stir in the taco seasoning mix and water. Bring to a simmer and cook for 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sauce has thickened and the beef is well coated. Reduce heat to low and keep warm.
  4. While the beef is simmering, preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Arrange the hard taco shells on a baking sheet and bake for 5-7 minutes, or until lightly crispy and warm.
  5. To assemble the tacos, fill each warm taco shell with a generous spoonful of the seasoned ground beef.
  6. Top with shredded lettuce, shredded cheese, diced tomatoes, and cilantro (if using).
  7. Serve immediately with your favorite toppings like sour cream, salsa, or hot sauce.
